COSTA MESA, Calif., March 31, 2011 – Michael Rubin, a senior partner at law firm Rutan & Tucker LLP, has received the firm’s highest commendation, the John B. Hurlbut, Jr. Award, for exemplifying its core values of excellence, teamwork and integrity.
“Mike is truly deserving of this high honor and I am proud to be his partner,” said Ski Harrison, the firm’s managing partner. The award was recently bestowed upon Rubin at the firm’s annual new partner dinner.
The award’s namesake, John Hurlbut, Jr., has been practicing business litigation at Rutan & Tucker since graduating from Stanford Law School in 1964 and has headed the firm’s Trial Section and been managing partner of the firm. Only two other Rutan partners have received the honor. The first went to Hurlbut himself and the second was given to Phil Kohn, a senior partner in the Government and Regulatory Law Section.

In 2009, Rubin received the American Jewish Committee’s Judge Learned Hand Lifetime Achievement Award in Orange County. The award honored his work for several non-profit organizations, including the Anaheim Community Foundation and the Anti-Defamation League, and for his civil rights activism.
Rubin has been a partner in the firm’s Public Law Section since 1980 and has been an attorney since 1974. He joined the firm after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School with magna cum laude and Order of the Coif honors.
Rubin co-chairs Rutan & Tucker’s Condemnation/Property Valuation Practice Group. He has been named to the prestigious list of Southern California “Super Lawyers” from 2005 through 2010. He is also very active at his synagogue, Temple Beth Sholom, which is located in Santa Ana.
