Rutan & Tucker, LLP, California’s largest full-service law firm based in Orange County, is setting a recycling example for other professional organizations to follow. Since 2008, Rutan has recycled more than 100,000 lbs. of paper and given more than 85,000 lbs. of materials for environmentally friendly destruction. In 2011 alone, 29,510 lbs. (14.76 tons) of paper was recycled. That’s the equivalent of 251 trees, 103,285 gallons of water and 59,020 kilowatts of power.
Additionally, the firm only uses plastic knives, forks, spoons and cups, as well as paper plates and cups that are 100% biodegradable/compostable. Also, the firm’s employees are encouraged to recycle old monitors, batteries and other electronics, and all toner cartridges are sent back to the manufacturer to be reused. Last year, Goodwill of Orange County honored Rutan as one of the first businesses to participate in Goodwill’s shredding and recycling program.
