Overview

Ben is a privacy associate in Rutan's Intellectual Property team. He advises clients on compliance with US privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as well as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and a variety of other laws and regulations. Ben's key areas of support include drafting privacy policies, providing privacy by design guidance to mitigate risk, managing internal data governance, fulfilling data subject rights (DSRs), and drafting and negotiating data processing agreements.

Prior to joining Rutan, Ben served as product counsel at Meta and Match.com. There, he provided actionable legal support on product launches, auto-renewing subscriptions, online contract formation, and international consumer-protection compliance. His background also includes roles in the Cybersecurity and Data Protection group at Jones Day and the Technology Transactions & Privacy group at Perkins Coie. This diverse experience gives Ben a deep understanding of in-house legal needs and a practical approach to delivering risk-based advice.

Ben received his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and his undergraduate degree in Political Science from UCLA.
