Sophia Sarwar

Sophia Sarwar’s practice focuses on the supervision of worldwide IP portfolios, including domestic and international patents and trademarks. With over a decade of experience, Sophia is adept at patent prosecution and client counseling for a wide variety of fields, including apparel, aerospace, and medical devices. Sophia is especially skilled in handling foreign prosecution for both patents and trademarks, which involves managing hundreds of applications filed around the globe.

Currently, Sophia advises a multi-national medical device corporation on its IP strategy, including management of its foreign and domestic patent portfolio; analysis regarding infringement, non-infringement, patent validity, freedom to operate, and patentability; as well as assessing the patent and trademark assets of potential acquisitions. Additionally, Sophia has assisted in patent litigation cases in a number of matters, including making determinations of infringement, non-infringement, and patent validity.

Prior to law school, she worked in the Document Control and Regulatory Affairs Department of Irvine Scientific, a leader in cell culture media in the life sciences industry. She submitted product packages to the Food and Drug Administration for approval. In that capacity, Sophia also inspected cell culture product lots for quality assurance and control.

While in law school, Sophia prepared and filed taxes for the low-income, elderly, disabled, and other individuals, as pro bono work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. She was also a member of the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court team, where she advanced to the Northeastern Regional Semifinals.
