COSTA MESA, Calif., June 28, 2012, the Commission on Judicial Appointments, consisting of Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Attorney General Kamala Harris, and Senior Presiding Justice Manuel Ramirez, unanimously confirmed former Rutan & Tucker attorney David Thompson as Associate Justice of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division 3, following his earlier appointment by Governor Brown. He fills the vacancy created by the elevation of Justice Kathleen O’Leary to Presiding Justice of that court. Before his elevation, Justice Thompson had served as a Judge of the Orange County Superior Court for 15 years.
John Hurlbut was one of four speakers chosen by Justice Thompson to speak in support of his confirmation at the June 28 hearing in the California Supreme Court Courtroom in San Francisco.
Following the commission confirmation vote, Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye administered the oath of office to Justice Thompson.
