COSTA MESA, Calif., November 00, 2012 – When Dr. Michael Farrell, husband of attorney Jennifer Farrell of law firm Rutan & Tucker, LLP, began the 10-kilometer run at this year’s 35th annual Dana Point Turkey Trot on Nov. 22, he didn’t think he’d have to put his medical skills to the test.
But that’s exactly what happened. During the course of his run, Dr. Farrell came upon a 48-year-old participant from San Juan Capistrano who had collapsed. He was not breathing and apparently was in full cardiac arrest despite several attempts by Deputy Dave Cappelle of the Dana Point Police Department to save him using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Dr. Farrell performed CPR and eventually revived the runner, who was then rushed to Mission Hospital for further treatment. “We believe the victim is stable and expected to survive,” said Douglas Chotkevys, Dana Point’s city manager. “We are very lucky and fortunate to have Jennifer and Mike on our team!” Rutan & Tucker is the city attorney for Dana Point.
