COSTA MESA, Calif., March 4, 2012 – Kim D. Thompson has been elected to a two-year term as managing partner of Rutan & Tucker, LLP, Orange County’s largest full-service business law firm, succeeding L Ski Harrison.
Thompson is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Department and regularly advises clients in commercial real estate transactions. He has been a member of the firm’s executive committee, and was previously the head of Rutan & Tucker’s Real Estate Department. He joined the firm in 1985.
The primary areas of his real estate practice include, the acquisition, leasing, development and sale of all types of real estate projects, including shopping centers, office buildings, residential developments, industrial buildings/projects, commercial ground leases and freestanding commercial real estate. His practice also includes tax- deferred exchanges of real property and investment properties and borrower representation in real estate loans.
Thompson received his law degree from the University of Southern California (USC) Law Center in 1985. While at USC, Thompson participated on the staffs of the Major Tax Planning publication and the Computer Law Journal. He earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Northern Arizona University in 1982.
His community involvement includes serving as a member of the board of directors of Orange County Search & Rescue, a non-profit organization involved in the training of volunteers in emergency and disaster preparedness, and was a member of the organization and planning committee of the Orange County Centennial celebration. He has also served as the chairman for “Project Playground” for Newport Heights Elementary School in Newport Beach, a founding officer and director of the Newport Heights Elementary Foundation and a founding member of the Newport Harbor lacrosse booster club.
