Rutan & Tucker LLP is partnering with the Los Angeles Chargers to send a Costa Mesa High School Junior to the Yale Summer Institute. Out of 6,000 applications nationwide, Scarleth Contreias, who is a Simon National Merit Scholar, was one of 300 students selected to attend Yale Young Global Scholars, Sustainable Development & Social Entrepreneurship. Rutan & Tucker and the Chargers will pay for her airplane ticket, which will be the first time she has ever traveled by air.
The principal of Costa Mesa High School brought the opportunity to Rutan & Tucker’s Government and Regulatory Partner Jennifer Farrell who is on the Board of City of Costa Mesa Chamber and Board of the Costa Mesa High School Foundation. She also represents the Chargers and negotiated with the city to have its Training Center at Costa Mesa High School.
Scarleth wants to attend a top tier university after high school with the goal of becoming a lawyer, working for the District Attorney’s office and eventually becoming a judge.
