COSTA MESA, Calif., October 11, 2013 – James L. Morris, a partner with Rutan & Tucker, LLP, the largest full-service law firm based in Orange County, recently participated in California Lawyer magazine’s 2013 Roundtable Series on labor and employment law. The discussion was published in the October 2013 edition of California Lawyer magazine.
Morris joined four other well-known California attorneys in a broad-ranging forum to discuss recent Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit, and California state court decisions concerning arbitration, employment class actions, and removal to federal court under California’s Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) (Cal. Lab. Code §§ 2698-2699.5).
The group also discussed the development of case law after the 2012 decision in D.R. Horton, in which the NLRB took a strong stance against class arbitrations. The panel also discussed the importance of properly wording arbitration agreements that seek to prevent class arbitration, trends in class certification in employment cases, the efforts of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to broaden the classifications protected under federal discrimination law, and other emerging trends in employment law.
Jim Morris has been a partner in the Firm’s Employment and Labor Department for 28 years. He represents employers in a wide variety of employment and labor law matters, both litigation and non-litigation, and has defended employment cases in many venues throughout the nation.
