COSTA MESA, Calif., February 3, 2015 – The Employment and Labor Law Department of Rutan & Tucker, LLP, California’s largest full-service law firm based in Orange County, recently hosted its annual employment law seminar for more than 200 clients and friends of the firm at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. The seminar aims to help employers focus on relevant legal developments over the past year, as well as anticipated issues for the coming year.
Rutan & Tucker partner Maria Stearns and associate Brandon Sylvia presented at the seminar, along with Jim Morris, Chair of the Employment and Labor Department, who served as program moderator. Ms. Stearns addressed wage and hour updates, including reimbursement for cell phone use, paid time off by exempt employees, and commission calculations. Mr. Sylvia reported on new legislation for 2015, including paid sick leave obligations and extended protections for immigrant workers and those with AB60 drivers licenses.
The speakers also addressed various recent developments in employment discrimination law and NLRB matters, among other issues. Mr. Morris moderated the “Top 10 FAQs” portion of the program, which focused on the most frequent counseling questions that Rutan & Tucker employment attorneys receive from clients.
