IRVINE, CA – Rutan & Tucker LLP announced today the arrival of Robert Russell, an experienced tax attorney as Senior Counsel in the Corporate group. Mr. Russell represents businesses and individuals for tax planning, tax controversy and transactional tax services with a specialty in cross-border tax issues. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Russell provides counsel on domestic and international business transactions, including entity structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and financing transactions. His international advising encompasses issues related to foreign entities, assets, trusts, foreign tax credits, transfer pricing and digital currency. He also assists with tax planning for high-net-worth individuals.
In addition, Mr. Russell represents clients in federal and state tax examinations, appeals and litigation. He developed an expertise while serving in prior government roles with the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Treasury and the U.S. Congress’ Joint Committee on Taxation. He is the current chair of the American Institute of CPAs – International Tax, Technical Resource Panel and was formerly an adjunct professor in the graduate tax law program at Georgetown University.
He holds an LL.M. in tax from Georgetown University Law Center, J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and a B.B.A. in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University. He also earned a certificate in Comparative Tax Administration and Tax Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
