Firm Placed First In Funds Raised In 1st Annual Law Firm Challenge
Costa Mesa, Calif., June 11, 2015 – Attorneys Maria Stearns and Rachel Simon of Rutan & Tucker LLP, one of California’s leading full-service law firms, were recently recognized by the Orange County Bar Foundation as being two of the top five OC Marathon fundraisers for the nonprofit organization. Overall, the firm placed first with the most money raised in the 1st Annual Law Firm Challenge.
Stearns captured first place in the friendly competition to raise much-needed funds for programs that support healthy families and communities with $7,016 raised, while Simon earned fifth place honors with $1,535. The firm total was $10,491. Both women completed the 13.1-mile half-marathon course.
As the youngest female equity partner in the firm, Stearns represents employers in all areas of employment law, including wage and hour class actions; preventative counseling; discrimination/harassment litigation; management training; and labor law. For the second year in a row, the Daily Journal, California’s leading legal news provider, honored her as one of California’s top women lawyers. She has been named a Southern California “Super Lawyer” in 2014 and 2015, and is the president of the Harvard Law School Women’s Alliance – Southern California Chapter.
Simon is an associate in the firm’s Corporate, Securities and Tax Section, where she provides legal counsel and representation to corporate and business clients, as well as to individuals, in a broad range of tax and financial matters. She handles complex commercial business transactions, strategic tax planning and controversies, corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate law and numerous other areas pertaining to finance.
