Ravi Mohan is a distinguished partner in our Intellectual Property group. He excels in steering industry-leading technology clients through the intricacies of IP portfolio development, litigation, and strategic transactions. With a robust track record of success, Ravi leads the firm’s Artificial Intelligence practice group, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to mastering the dynamic interplay of legal and technical challenges in cutting-edge domains including next generation AI, networking and wireless standards, decentralized platforms, and advanced storage solutions. His deep industry insights are rooted in his prior experience as a wireless engineer at Verizon.
As a thought-leader, he has appeared on the Discovery Channel, and contributed to Ars Technica, Bloomberg, Law 360, the Wall Street Journal and InformationWeek.
Notably, Ravi brings unique international legal experience and cultural sensitivity to the table, having practiced patent litigation while residing in Tokyo, Japan. He is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi. Ravi is also an alumni of the prestigious California Minority Counsel Program’s Ambassadors Council.
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Neural Networks
- Industry-leading domain expertise (e.g., GPT/LLM variants, LLaMA, DeepSeek, Claude, neural network implementation and coding).
- Developing IP portfolio and strategy for entities with an AI and ML focus.
- Strategizing IP for a number of clients regarding large language models (LLMs); chatbots, and other neural networks.
- Successfully obtained IP for next-generation edge AI interfaces, NPUs, AI-specific silicon; low-power solutions; and numerous data center solutions.
Patent Strategy + Portfolio Development
- Created a worldwide patent portfolio from scratch for an artificial intelligence/edge-device company. The patent portfolio helped garner multiple rounds of significant funding.
- Led the development of an IP portfolio for a frictionless shopping entity. The patent portfolio garnered multiple rounds of funding.
- Guiding multiple prominent automotive entities with a focus towards EV technology and IP scaling.
- Advising numerous entities in conducting technical analyses, building “minimum viable blockchains” and token selection/design.
IP Litigation + Freedom to Operate Opinion Counseling
- Member of a team that successfully handled high-profile smartphone litigation cases in Japan.
- Drafted numerous freedom-to-operate opinions and redesign concepts for numerous technologies and industries, including AI, software, medical-device, and automotive components.
- Represented numerous clients at various stages of litigation – pre-assertion, pre-trial and thru settlement, including successfully arguing and winning claim construction in Court.
IP Transactions
- Conducted numerous IP due diligence projects for high-technology investments by venture capital firms and for acquirers in merger and acquisition contexts.
- Developed valuation models regarding core portfolio technologies given industry trends and consumer behavior.
