COSTA MESA, CA – The Orange County/Long Beach Region of the Anti-Defamation League has chosen Rutan & Tucker LLP Partner Michael Rubin to receive the 2018 Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award along with co-honorees David Flattum of PIMCO and Ellen S. Bancroft of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP.
The prize is named after Justice Marcus Kaufman, the 103rd Justice of the California Supreme Court and a champion of civil rights. It is given annually to attorneys who make significant contributions to their communities and to the legal profession and who exemplify the mission of the Anti-Defamation League to secure justice and fair treatment to all. The 2018 Marcus M. Kaufman Jurisprudence Dinner is on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.
Mr. Rubin is a partner in the law firm of Rutan & Tucker where he has practiced law since graduating from the University of Michigan Law School (Magna cum laude) in 1974. His practice emphasis is in Real Estate, Eminent Domain, Public Agency Litigation, Land Use Entitlement and Regulation matters as well as Property Tax matters. He has been selected by Los Angeles Magazine every year since 2005, as one of Southern California’s “Super Lawyers,” an honor bestowed on 5% of Southern California’s attorneys each year. He served as the Orange County/Long Beach Regional Chairperson for the Anti-Defamation League from 2012 through 2015 and is currently active as the immediate past Chair. He was honored by the American Jewish Committee with its Judge Learned Hand Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. He has been honored as recipient of Opera Pacific’s Niles Gates Leadership Award (1994) and as Opera Pacific’s “Volunteer of the Year” (1992). He has also served as Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Orange County Bar Association and as Orange County Chairperson of the University of Michigan Law School Fund. He has served on the Executive Board of the International Right of Way Association, Chapter 67, (and was named its “Professional of the Year” in 2002). He is also an active Board member of the Anaheim Community Foundation.
