Overview
Jim Sutton has established himself as one of the leading political and election law attorneys in California. He has practiced for more than 30 years representing clients before every major city and government agency including the California Fair Political Practices Commission and the ethics commissions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and San Jose.
He provides compliance advice to established businesses, non-profits, law firms and real estate entities that get involved in the political and lobbying realms. He also represents political committees, ballot measure campaigns, Super PACS, trade association PACS and candidates in political campaigns around California.
He has argued numerous political and election law cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts and taught Elections Law at Hastings College of the Law for several years.
Notable professional affiliations include Past President of the California Political Attorneys Association and former Member of the State Bar’s Nonprofit Corporation Committee.
He is currently on the Pomona College Alumni Association Board. He was previously on the Boards of the Friends of the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley, Olympic Club History & Archives Committee, Friends & Foundation of the San Francisco Public Library, San Francisco Parks Alliance, Tennis Coalition of San Francisco, Enterprise for High School Students and San Francisco School Alliance Advisory Board.
Jim graduated cum laude from Pomona College, and was Associate Managing Editor of the Law Review and a Moot Court finalist at Stanford Law School.
