IRVINE, CA – April 1, 2024 – Rutan & Tucker LLP is pleased to announce that acclaimed political and election law attorney Jim Sutton, founding partner of The Sutton Law Firm, has joined Rutan as a partner in its San Francisco office and will expand the firm’s election law capabilities, including launching Rutan’s first formal Election Law Practice group. Sutton is joined by partner Matthew Alvarez in Los Angeles, as well as Associate Eli Love and Political Compliance Specialists Chris Gembinski and Cameron Whiteside in San Francisco.
“We are excited about the opportunity to expand our election law capabilities in California especially as we head into another election cycle at the local, state and Federal levels,” says Rutan’s Managing Partner Michael Adams. “Our clients will now have access to the exceptional campaign, lobbying and ethics law expertise that Jim and his team bring to Rutan.”
The Election Law Practice group will provide compliance advice to businesses, law firms, non-profits and real estate entities involved in the political and election realms. The attorneys also represent political committees, Super PACS, and trade association PACS, and provide legal services to local ballot measure campaigns and candidates, including advice on lobbying laws and reporting services. When litigation arises, clients also turn to Sutton and his team.
“I have known Rutan partners John Ramirez and Ash Pirayou for almost 30 years and have had the pleasure of working with them and some of the outstanding lawyers at Rutan who seek our guidance on election law matters,” says Sutton. “Rutan is a natural fit for our practice, and I am pleased to bring my team to the firm and assist existing and emerging clients with achieving their business objectives.”
