COSTA MESA, Calif., January 8, 2013 – On behalf of his client, Diamond Enterprises, LTD., Alejandro S. Angulo, a partner at Rutan & Tucker, LLP, recently won a $3,979,242.68 judgment following a multi-week trial in Orange County Superior Court involving two complicated real estate investment fraud schemes.
The judgment awards monies based on claims for securities violations, fraud, breach of fiduciary and breach of contract. The judgment includes the permanent removal of the party who engaged in the fraudulent scheme as manager of one of the investments.
Angulo is a member of the firm’s Trial Department and Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, where his practice consists of general business and civil litigation, as well as consulting with clients on pre-litigation and transactional matters. As a business litigator, his experience includes both jury and non-jury trials and prosecuting and defending his clients’ interests in various pre-trial matters, including dispositive motions and injunctive relief. Angulo also handles intellectual property litigation and related matters.
He has represented a broad range of clients, including high net worth individuals and publicly held companies, in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings and private arbitrations. Angulo was selected by OC Metro Magazine as one of its “40 Under 40” for 2011. He earned his law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
“This case serves as a stark reminder that those we trust most, such as close friends and family, have the greatest potential of taking advantage of that trust for their own gain,” said Angulo. “The defendant in this case was able to induce our client’s investments because they were long time friends who considered each other like brothers, were members of the same ethnic community and shared the same faith.”
